The Philodendron Scandens Micans is a trailing plant which grows new leaves regularly in the growing season. As with all trailing plants you can leave this plant to hang (Philodendrons can reach impressive lengths very fast!) or you can train them to climb up a stake, trellis or moss pole. Mature plants may produce many green-white flowers.

Pot size (diameter): 8cm, multiple cuttings rooted in soil, grown from wet sticks and cuttings. Some ends have been trimmed and other cosmetic damage is present.

The Philodendron Scandens Micans has dark green velvet feeling leaves with an iridescent sheen and purple tint which is especially prominent on the newer growth.

Despite their delicate appearance, they are actually a relatively hardy and low maintenance plant to care for. They aren’t too fussed about light or humidity but do prefer to be kept moist.

Micans are one of the types of Philodendron which have

extrafloral nectaries, nectar glands which produce a sticky sap on the leaves and stems of the plant. This nectar is harmless but can leave small round marks on the leaves which can be confused for pest damage.

Care:

Light:  Tolerant of medium light to bright indirect light, however too much light can cause brown, crispy tips on the leaves.

Water: Keep the soil moist at all times, water when the top ⅓ portion of  soil dries out. For best results water from underneath with the use of a saucer to reduce the chance of root rot. Reduce watering during winter months.

Food: Feed monthly during the growing season but not during winter.

Humidity: High humidity will produce a happier plant but will tolerate a normal household humidity. A low humidity will cause brown, crispy tips on the leaves.
